Trinity Swimming & Diving Teams Beat UT-Permian Basin

San Antonio - The Trinity swimming & diving teams defeated the NCAA Division II University of Texas of the Permian Basin Saturday in dual meets in Hixon Natatorium.


The Tiger men beat the Falcons 138-123, and Trinity's women emerged as the winners by a score of 156-100.

The competition began with the diving competition. Daniel Valmessei won the men's 1-meter event, beating the UT-Permian Basin diver by 4.8 points. Anthony Liva was runner-up on the high board. Christine Peterson was Trinity's only women's diver.

First-year swimmer Mabel Fowler was the champion of three individual events, taking first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, and 200-yard backstroke.

Fowler joined Liz Ryan, Rebecca Andruzzi, and Lindsay Hagmann on the first-place 200-yard medley relay team. Hagmann, Ryan, Star Rosales, and Elizabeth Nelson were the winning quartet of the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Andruzzi also picked up two individual champion in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

Rosales won the gold in the 50-yard freestyle, Caroline North took the 100-yard backstroke, and Ivy Claflin captured the 200-yard butterfly.

Jacob Hurrell-Zitelman won the men's 500-yard freestyle and the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Shamzi Alkaff was also a double individual winner in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.

Alkaff was joined by Charles Clark, Leon Faulk, and Cole Rezsofi in the 200-yard freestyle relay won by the Tigers.

Clark picked up the 100-yard backstroke title, Connor McClure placed first in the 200-yard individual medley, and Noah Stopkotte was the champion of the 200-yard breaststroke.



The Trinity Tiger Invitational is set for November 17-19 at San Antonio's Palo Alto College Natatorium.
