Trinity Swimming & Diving Falls to Division I UIW Friday

San Antonio - The Tiger men's and women's swimming & diving teams lost dual meets to the NCAA Division I University of the Incarnate Word on Friday.


UIW's men beat Trinity 152-70, while the Cardinals women's team won 141-67.

The meet began at Trinity's Hixon Natatorium with the diving competition.

First-year men's diver Daniel Valmessei won his second event of the season, finishing first on the 1-meter board, with a score of 293.75. Anthony Liva placed second, trailing his teammate by just 3.45 points. Liva was also the runner-up on the high board.

Christine Peterson was a second-place finisher on the women's low board, and placed third on the high board.

The swimming portion was held at Ann Barshop Natatorium, on the nearby UIW campus.

Lindsay Hagmann won the women's 50-yard freestyle race, touching the pad in 24.51 seconds. Hagmann is ranked in the top-15 in the 50 free in the NCAA Division III so far this season. Hagmann was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle by 0.31 seconds, turning in another top-15 national time.

Payton Green and Rebecca Andruzzi finished first and second, respectively, in the women's 500-yard freestyle. Green swam the event in 5:26.59, and Andruzzi was just five seconds behind.

The runner-up women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hagmann, Star Rosales, Elizabeth Ryan, and Elizabeth Nelson swam a top-10 Trinity time of 1:41.09.

Charles Clark placed second in the men's 100-yard backstroke at 53.57 seconds, while Cole Rezsofi was a second-place competitor in the 50-yard freestyle, less than half a second behind the winner.



Trinity will host the University of Texas of the Permian Basin on Saturday, November 4, in Hixon Natatorium.
