Trinity Swimming & Diving Teams Split With Southwestern

San Antonio/Georgetown, Texas- The Trinity women's swimming & diving team defeated Southwestern (TX) University, while the Tiger men fell to the Pirates on Saturday.


Meet Highlights

Trinity's swimmers made the short trip to Georgetown to compete at Southwestern University. The Tiger women beat the Pirates 180-112, while Trinity's men lost 127-161.

Trinity's women captured eight first-place positions in the meet. Lindsay Hagmann won the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle. Ashley Ward was also a two-time winner in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke.

Erin Crooks took the women's 200-yard breaststroke, while Dezion Hartman placed first in the 200-yard butterfly. Junior Rebecca Andruzzi won the 200-yard individual medley, and Lauren Cuda emerged as the champion of the 500-yard freestyle.

A highlight of the men's events was first-year swimmer Jacob Hurrell-Zitelman, who swam to a Trinity top-10 time in winning the 1,000-yard freestyle. Zitelman touched the pad in 10:07.10. Nate Borchers went on to win the 500-yard freestyle..

Meanwhile, seven Trinity divers turned in NCAA Division III Region 2 qualifying scores at Hixon Natatorium. Danielle Freund won the women's 1-meter board, posting a score of 293.18. Sarah Kate Mrkonich was runner-up, and Christine Peterson rounded out the top three.

In the women's 3-meter event, Peterson emerged in first place at 289.58. Patzke came in as runner-up, and Freund's score put her in third place.

Duncan MacAskill finished third on the men's 1-meter board, chalking up a score of 282.08.

The NCAA Region 2 Championships will be held February 24-25 at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. Qualifiers advance to the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships March 15-18 at Shenandoah, Texas.

Mrkonich, Peterson, and Patzke received the necessary second qualifying score for a slot in the Regional. Freund, Reed, and Diaz need one more to make the trip to Grinnell. MacAskill also must turn in an additional qualifying performance.
