Shenandoah, Texas - Trinity first-year divers Danielle Freund and Sarah Kate Mrkonich earned Honorable Mention All-America honors on the 1-meter board to lead Trinity's competitors at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday.
Freund scored 401.80 points and finished 10th on the low board at the Conroe Independent School District Natatorium. Mrkonich came in at No. 11 with 390.85 points.
In Wednesday’s 3-meter competition, Freund became an All-American with a fifth-place finish, scoring 462.35 points. Mrkonich placed 15th, and garnered Honorable Mention All-America accolades.
In swimming action from this morning's prelims, sophomore swimmer Isaac Johnson placed 43rd in the men’s 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 51.71 seconds.
Tiger senior Stephen Culberson will defend his NCAA National Championship in the men’s 100 freestyle Saturday - the last of the four-day meet. Culberson captured the championship trophy by winning the 2014 event at Indianapolis, Indiana. Senior Lydia Jones and first-year Lindsay Hagmann are entered in the women’s 100 freestyle.
Culberson will also swim the 400 freestyle relay with Johnson, and seniors Adam Thomas and Kevin Thomas. Jones, Hagmann and first-years Lauren Cuda and Bethany Rysak will compete in the women’s 400 freestyle relay event.
Saturday's preliminaries begin at 10:00 a.m., with a final start of 6:00 p.m. The Championships are being hosted by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Follow the action on the SCAC Twitter or Instagram accounts at @scacswimming.
