Trinity Splits SCAC Doubleheader at Schreiner

Kerrville, Texas – Trinity's softball team split a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on the road against Schreiner (TX) University on Thursday, winning 11-3 after a 6-1 loss in the opener.



The Tigers managed just one run on seven hits in the first game, but bounced back with one of their most prolific offensive showings of the season to take the Thursday finale.

Trinity scored eight runs in the first three innings to take an 8-0 lead, beginning with a three-run first inning that featured three hits and two Schreiner errors.

The Tigers laced five singles in the second inning to score three more runs, then added two more runs on four two-out hits in the third.

Schreiner broke up the shutout with a run in the bottom of the third to make it an 8-1 game, but Trinity got that run back in the fourth to maintain its lead.

The Mountaineers scored two quick runs to start the fourth, then put two more runners in scoring position with just one out. The Tigers cut down a runner at home to keep the score 9-3 after four complete.

Adrienne Edwards doubled home two runs in the top of the fifth to set up the run-rule, and Schreiner was not able to keep the game going in the bottom half.

In game one, Schreiner scored three times in the second inning to take the early advantage, then added another run in the third to push the lead to 4-0.

Trinity broke up the shutout in the sixth with a two-out hit from Hailey Wilson that made it a 5-1 game in favor of the home team.

Schreiner added one more run in the sixth to finish the scoring, and Trinity went down in order in the seventh.



Trinity is now 15-21 overall and 9-12 in conference, while Schreiner is 16-22 and 12-10 in SCAC.

The Tigers tied a team season-high with 17 hits in game two, reaching double figures in scoring for the eighth time this year.

Emily Vaclavik and Rylie Goldwait accounted for four of Trinity's seven hits in the opening game.

Hailey Wilson drove in the game's only run, which was scored by Emily Barefield.

Allie Holbrook (9-10) allowed five runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings in the loss, though she did record three strikeouts.

Cat Patterson (5-8) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits in the complete-game victory in game two.

Jenna Kash and Rylie Goldwait both had three hits and three runs scored in the second game. Kash also drove in two runs, while Goldwait had one RBI and a stolen base.

Gina Monaco also enjoyed a three-hit performance in game two, while Emily Reed had two hits and two RBI in the finale.

Vaclavik added two more hits and a pair of runs to her daily total, while Adrienne Edwards drove in two runs in the second game.



The Tigers and Mountaineers continue the conference series with a Friday doubleheader that begins at 12:00 p.m., which will also be the regular season finale for Trinity.
