San Antonio - Trinity's softball team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series against 19th-ranked Texas Lutheran University on Saturday, falling 9-1 and 11-3.
After Texas Lutheran scored three runs in the first two innings to take the lead, Trinity got a two-out RBI from Rylie Goldwait in the bottom of the second to make it a 3-1.
The Bulldogs then blew the game open with five runs in the third, taking advantage of three walks, a hit batter, and a Tiger error to go ahead 8-1.
A solo home run in the fourth put the visitors in front 9-1 and that would prove to be the final score of the game, which ended after five innings.
Game two saw Texas Lutheran use a five-run second inning to take a 7-0 lead over the Tigers, but Trinity rallied with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the second to get on the board.
The Bulldogs added four more runs over the next four innings to push the lead to 11-3, and the Tigers managed just one base runner after the prolific second inning.
Trinity now stands at 10-11 overall and is 4-4 in SCAC competition. Texas Lutheran improved to 17-5 and 11-1 SCAC.
Emily Vaclavik batted 2-3 in the opener, accounting for two of Trinity's six total hits in the game.
The Tigers will open up a four-game SCAC series with a doubleheader against the University of Dallas (TX) on Saturday, March 30, at 1:00 p.m.
