Tigers Fall to Bethany Lutheran and Central to Close Arizona Trip

Tucson, Arizona - The Trinity softball team wrapped up the Tucson Invitational Games Friday with losses to Bethany Lutheran (MN) College and 15th-ranked Central (IA) College.

 

GAME SUMMARIES

Trinity was edged 3-2 by Bethany Lutheran in the opening game and then lost 5-1 to Central College.

Bethany Lutheran got the scoring started with a two-out rally in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead.

Pinch-hitter Emily Vaclavik got Trinity set up for its first run of the game by leading off the fifth with an infield single. She came around to score on an error two batters later to tie the game 1-1.

The Vikings reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth, beginning with two singles and scoring on a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers rallied in the seventh with three hits that included Hailey Wilson's RBI single, but Bethany Lutheran got back-to-back strikeouts to hold on for the win.

Central got a pair of hits in the first inning to pull in front to start game two, then added two more runs in the second, and another run in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

Trinity got on the board with a pair of hits and an error in the bottom of the third, but it would prove be the only run of the game for the Tigers. 

 

NOTABLES

Trinity now stands at 10-7 on the season, while Bethany Lutheran improved to 7-5, and Central upped its record to 3-1.

Hailey Wilson drove in a Tiger run in the opener with Bethany Lutheran, and Devon Potter batted 2-4 in the game.

Danielle Ruiz went 2-3 at the plate against Central.

Cat Patterson (3-3) was charged with the loss in the pitcher's circle against Bethany Lutheran, giving up just three runs on six hits and recording a pair of strikeouts.

Allie Holbrook (6-4) went the distance against Central, striking out four batters, but allowing five runs on 10 hits.

 

UP NEXT

The Tigers open their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign on Friday, March 22, by hosting Texas Lutheran University in a doubleheader that begins at 5:00 p.m.
