San Antonio - Trinity sophomore Brianna Pena has been tabbed as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for the second time this season.
The Tiger shortstop was instrumental in Trinity's four-game SCAC sweep of Austin (TX) College last week in Sherman, Texas. Included in the victories was a 10-1 run-rule win each day.
Pena batted .615 over the four games, going 8-13 at the plate. She drove in four runs, scored four others, and collected five doubles. In the run-rule opener on the first day of the series, Pena hit 3-4 with a double, scoring two runs and picking up one RBI. All told in the opening pair of games, Pena went 5-7 with two RBI, two runs and two doubles. She also cracked two doubles in the final matchup of the series.
This season, Pena leads the team with a .487 batting average. She is also tops with 19 hits, 11 runs, nine doubles, and 28 total bases. Pena is sporting a .718 slugging percentage.
The Tigers stand at 7-5 overall and are 4-0 in conference play. Trinity embarks on a trip this week to the Tucson Invitational Games in Arizona. Wednesday's action will see the Tigers take on Cornell (IA) College at 1:30 p.m. (MT), followed by a matchup with Mount Mary (WI) University at 6:00 p.m.
