Sherman, Texas - The Trinity softball team swept its four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series Saturday by taking a doubleheader from the Kangaroos.
The Tigers claimed a 10-1 five-inning victory in Saturday's opener, and then won the second game 8-3.
Emily Reed blasted the Tigers' second home run of the season with a two-run shot to center field in the opening inning of the day, and the Tigers never looked back.
Trinity increased it's lead in the third, as the Tigers put up three runs on three hits.
Reed fired up a triple in the fourth inning, and Brianna Pena brought her homes with a double out to left center. The Roos' only run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth after two of their batters slapped a pair of singles with two outs, but Trinity were able to get out of the inning with a solid 6-1 lead.
The Tigers weren't done though, as they scored four more insurance runs in the fifth. Trinity scored four runs on three hits, while taking advantage of two Austin College errors. Reed again played a part in the scoring with a single, which also scored two runs on an error.
The Tigers scored an unearned run in the first inning of game two. Trinity added a run in the third on an RBI single from Pena. Austin College retaliated with another two out run in the third inning, but the visiting team was able to escape the inning with a 2-1 advantage.
The fifth inning was big for Trinity, as the Tigers produced three runs on three hits and an error to increase their lead to 5-1.
Trinity's half of the seventh resulted in three more insurance runs on five hits. Crumrine smacked an RBI double, and Jenna Kash drove in two runs with a single to center field. Austin College attempted a come back int he bottom of the seventh, but the margin was too much for the 'Roos to overcome.
Trinity stands at 7-5 on the season and is undefeated in the SCAC with a 4-0 record. Austin College dropped to 0-15 and 0-4 in conference play.
Allie Holbrook pitched four innings of game one and claimed the victory. Holbrook (5-3) did not permit an earned run or a walk and fanned four players. Lauren Rich took over for the final inning. Rich also batted 2-2 and scored a run in the game.
Emily Reed batted 3-3 in game one with a career high four RBI and three runs scored to go with a home run and a triple.
Stephanie Crumrine was flawless at the plate in game two, batting 4-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Brianna Pena hit 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in game two, along with a double. She also hit 2-3 with an RBI and two doubles in the first game.
Cat Patterson (2-2) got the nod on the pitcher's circle for game two and hurled for five innings, giving up one earned run. Alyssa Joliffe entered in relief for two innings and struck out three players.
The Tigers head to Arizona for the Tucson Invitational Games. A doubleheader is set for Wednesday, March 13, starting with a 1:30 p.m. MST game with Cornell (IA) College. Trinity then takes on Mount Mary (WI) University at 6:00 p.m. local time.
