Softball Swept in Road DH at Mary Hardin-Baylor

Belton, Texas – The Tiger softball team was swept 6-0 and 4-3 in a road doubleheader against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) on Tuesday.

Trinity was held to just three hits in the opening game and never got a runner past second base. The Tigers also hit into two double plays to end the second and sixth innings.

Mary Hardin-Baylor scored a run in each of the first two innings, which would prove to be enough for the victory. The Crusaders added three insurance runs in the fourth, then capped the game one scoring with another run in the sixth.

The second game was a different story as Trinity hammered out eight hits against just four for UMHB.

The Crusaders got a solo homer in the bottom of the first to take the early lead, but the Tigers tied things up with their first run of the day in the top of the fourth. Another double play kept Trinity from a big inning.

Mary Hardin-Baylor answered immediately in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs on two hits and taking advantage of two walks in the inning as well.

Trinity used a two-out rally in the fifth to get one of those runs back and make it a 4-2 game, but the Tigers stranded two runners on base.

In the sixth, Trinity was back on the board after an error brought in another score to make it a one-run lead for the home team.

The Tigers got a one-out walk to put the tying run aboard in the seventh, but were not able to extend the game.

Trinity had its season-opening win streak of six games snapped in the first game, and the Tigers now stand 6-2 on the season. Mary Hardin-Baylor improved to 8-4 overall with the two victories.

Three different Tiger players went 2-3 in the second game of the doubleheader, and Trinity piled up eight hits in game two. Trinity finished with just three base hits in the opening game.

Rylie Goldwait was 2-3 with a walk, while Danielle Ruiz finished 2-3 with one RBI.

In addition to going 2-3 with a run scored on offense, Adrienne Edwards also threw a complete game for the Tigers. She allowed four runs on four hits, striking out five batters.

Trinity will open up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a four-game series at Centenary (LA) College this weekend. The series begins with a Saturday doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
