Softball Splits Sunday's SCAC Doubleheader at Schreiner

Kerrville, Texas - Trinity's softball team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series by splitting a Sunday doubleheader at Schreiner (TX) University.

The Tigers won the opening game 4-1, then lost the weekend series finale by a score of 6-2 against the Mountaineers.

Trinity fell behind early in game one after Schreiner started things off with a run in the bottom of the first inning.

The Tigers rallied for three runs on four hits in the third inning, scoring on RBI doubles from Rebecca Berreth and Marisa Trevino.

In the fifth, Trinity added an insurance run on another RBI double by Berreth.

Trinity allowed just one run on seven hits, but gave up just three hits after the first inning of action.

In game two, the Mountaineers broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning with a four-run inning that featured six hits.

The Tigers rallied with two runs in the fifth, but missed their chance for a big inning by leaving the bases loaded.

Schreiner immediately answered with two more runs in the bottom of the inning to finish off the scoring for the game. Trinity had just one more base runner in the final two innings.

Trinity is now 2-8 overall and 1-3 in SCAC play, while Schreiner is 9-7, 3-1 SCAC after taking three of four games over the weekend.

Rebecca Berreth went 3-4 with two doubles and three RBI to lead the Tiger offense in the opening game, as well as scoring a run.

Sara McCarty went 2-3 with two runs scored, while Hilary Hoffman and Marisa Trevino had two hits each for Trinity.

Katie Glomb (1-3) earned her first win of the season with the complete-game effort, allowing just one run on seven hits, and striking out five batters. Glomb allowed just three hits over the last six innings.

Danielle Ruiz went 2-3 with a run scored in the second game, and was the only Tiger player with more than one hit in the series finale.
