San Antonio - The Tiger softball team lost both games of a non-conference doubleheader at home against Hardin-Simmons University on Friday evening, falling 5-1 and 6-4.
Trinity fell to 7-15 overall this season, and 4-6 at home. The Tigers fell behind by at least five runs in both games, but could not rally in the late innings.
The Tigers gave up five runs on two errors in the third inning of game one, then gave up a pair of three-run innings (second and fifth innings) to trail 6-0 in the second game. In game two, Trinity's offense came to life with a four-run rally, but then it was Hardin-Simmons who buckled down and shut down the Tigers the rest of the way.
Colbie Devost (4-8) took the loss in the opener, striking out six, but giving up four earned runs on eight hits in seven innings. Sydney Friday (3-7) also allowed just four runs - six total - in seven innings, yielding seven hits, and recording three strikeouts.
Trinity was held to just two hits in the opening game, which came off the bats of Karen MacPherson and Teresa Greppi. MacPherson scored the only run of the game for the Tigers.
Megan Russell and Ana Garcia had two hits each in game two, leading the Trinity offense. Russell drove in two runs and had her 13th career double. Garcia scored one of Trinity's four rusn and was 2-3 at the plate. Rachel Garrett and Kayleigh Kinlaw also picked up RBI for the Tigers.
Trinity opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play tomorrow, hosting Austin College in the first of two doubleheaders this weekend. The Tigers and 'Roos start at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, and at noon on Sunday.
