Lambeth and Pitts Selected for NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles and Doubles

San Antonio - Trinity senior Wilson Lambeth and junior Jordan Pitts have received bids to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships.

The Tiger duo will compete in the 32-draw Singles Championship and the 16-team Doubles Championship May 24-26 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Each player is a first-time competitor in the NCAA singles event. Lambeth and Pitts made the doubles tournament as a tandem for the second year in a row, while Lambeth will compete in his third doubles event.

Lambeth and Pitts are the top-ranked doubles team in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region. The Trinity standouts have won eight matches in a row and have chalked up a 17-3 dual-match record.

In May 2018, Lambeth and Pitts lost to the top-seeded team from Middlebury (VT) College in the NCAA Doubles First Round. Last fall, the two Tigers won the ITA Southwest Doubles Championship and qualified for the ITA Cup.

Lambeth was paired with former player Matt Tyer in the 2017 NCAA Doubles Championship. The Tiger tandem became the first Trinity doubles team to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals since 2010.

Lambeth is ranked seventh in West Region Singles, and is on a 12-match win streak, with a 15-6 record in dual matches. That mark includes a 6-0 mark on the top line of singles. He was elected the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year, helping Trinity to win its 10th consecutive SCAC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament..

Pitts holds a #8 Singles ranking in the West Region and stands at 5-7 on the top line and a 6-8 overall record.

Led by 10th-year Head Coach Russell McMindes, the 13th-ranked Tigers open the NCAA Team Championship Friday in Claremont, California. Trinity (16-9) plays 26th-ranked Whitman (WA) College in the second round at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The winner advances to Saturday's third round, also scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT.

At stake is a berth in the NCAA Quarterfinals, to be held May 20 at Kalamazoo slated for May 21-22.
