San Antonio - The 11th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team scored a 9-0 home victory over #29 Southwestern (TX) University Friday.
The Tigers took all three doubles matches to start off with a 3-0 lead. Wilson Lambeth and Tilden Oliver won the top line, Cameron Krimbill and Artur Zigman won the second, while Wilson Hamilton and Jace Akagi-Okuma captured the third.
Trinity won three of the six singles matches in straight sets, including the clincher by Akagi-Okuma on the fourth line.
Zigman was the first singles match off the court at line six, while Krimbill won line three after the clincher.
The other three singles matches were tightly-played battles that came down to the wire.
Lambeth won the first set of the top line 7-6, lost the second 3-6, but prevailed 13-11 in the third.
Hamilton took the opening set of #2 singles 7-5, lost the second 4-6, and edged his opponent 12-10 in the third stanza.
Oliver won the opening set of #5 singles 6-4, lost a 6-7 tiebreaker in the second, and came out on top 10-8 in the third to finish off the shutout.
Trinity won its fifth straight match and improved to 11-8 on the season, including a 10-2 mark against NCAA Division III teams.
The Pirates dropped to 10-4 on the season.
Artur Zigman remains undefeated with a 6-0 record in singles.
Wilson Lambeth captured his seventh match in a row and stands at 10-6 in singles play.
Cameron Krimbill has won five consecutive singles matches and has chalked up a 10-8 record.
Jace Akagi-Okuma is also on a five-match win streak and stands at 9-6.
Krimbill and Zigman are 6-4 as a doubles tandem and have won five matches in a row.
The Tigers travel to Claremont, California, next week and take on #20 Gustavus Adolphus (MN) College on April 5.
