Abilene, Texas - The 17th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team opened its NCAA Division III campaign Friday with a 9-0 shutout of Hardin-Simmons (TX) University.
All the Trinity players won their singles matches in two sets.
Pitts won a first-set tiebreak 7-6, and then prevailed 6-3 in the second set at #1 singles. Lambeth won the second line of singles, and Hamilton took the third. Krimbill was a winner at #4 singles, Akagi-Okuma won the fifth, and Tilden Oliver rounded out the sweep in the sixth match. All the Trinity players won their matches in two sets.
Trinity now stands at 1-2 on the season, while Hardin-Simmons is 0-1.
The Tigers continue their Abilene trip by taking on NCAA Division I member Abilene Christian (TX) University at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Trinity then meets Tyler (TX) Junior College, ranked #1 in the National Junior College Athletic Association, at 2:00 p.m.
