San Antonio - Six members of the 14th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team have been selected for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis All-Tournament Team.
Selection is based on an undefeated record in singles or doubles at the tournament held in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The next-best mark is used for selection if that criteria is not met. Trinity captured its ninth consecutive SCAC Championship and the 23rd overall title, which is the most championships won by any one program in SCAC history.
Wilson Lambeth garnered All-Tournament kudos in singles and doubles for the third year in a row. Lambeth played #3 singles and teamed with Jordan Pitts on the top doubles line. Lambeth was an All-Tournament player at #2 singles last season and won the accolade on the third line in 2016. He was part of the #1 doubles tandem in 2017 and competed in the third match in 2016.
Wilson Hamilton was Trinity's representative at #1 singles, while Pitts played #2 singles and recieved All-Tournament recognition for the second consecutive year. Jace Akagi-Okuma competed in the fourth matchup. Hamilton and Akagi-Okuma were All-Tournament honorees at #2 doubles, while Austin Crist and Tilden Oliver made the squad on the third line.
Led by ninth-year Head Coach Russell McMindes, the second-seeded Tigers defeated #1 Southwestern (TX) University 5-0 in the championship match. Trinity took out Centenary (LA) College 5-0 in the quarterfinals, and then beat Austin (TX) College 5-1 in the semifinals.
Trinity now stands at 15-11 overall and 14-8 against NCAA Division III opponents. The Tigers will receive a bid to the NCAA Division III Championship on May 7. The first three rounds of the team tournament are slated for May 11-13 at sites to be determined. The quarterfinals, semifinals and championship will be played May 21-23 at Claremont, California. The singles and doubles championship are scheduled for May 24-26 at Claremont.
