Colorado Springs, Colorado - The 14th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team defeated Austin (TX) College 5-1 to advance to the SCAC Championship Match.
Trinity has won eight straight SCAC Championships, having now reached the tournament final every year since 1992 - a streak of 27 consecutive seasons. The Tigers have won 22 conference titles during that span.
Jordan Pitts and Wilson Lambeth were the first doubles team off the courts after earning a solid 8-4 win to get the Tigers on the board. Austin College picked up the next point with a win at line three, but Wilson Hamilton and Jace Akagi-Okuma were able to hold on for a 8-6 victory at line two to make it a 2-1 Tiger lead going into singles competition.
Lambeth made quick work of his opponent to pick up his 10th consecutive win with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at line three, and Hamilton followed suit with the same outcome at line one. Akagi-Okuma was then able to hang on and clinch the match for the Tigers with his 6-4, 6-4 win at line four, which marked his 12th straight win.
Pitts's match at line two was left unfinished, but he had picked up the first set 7-5.
Trinity will take on Southwestern (TX) University tomorrow in the championship match to be held at the Air Force Academy Indoor Courts at 8:30 a.m. (MT).
