#15 Trinity Men's Tennis Splits Against #5 Wesleyan and #32 Swarthmore

Claremont, California - The 15th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team fell 6-3 to fifth-ranked Wesleyan (Conn.) University before defeating #32 Swarthmore (PA) College 5-4 on the first day of the Stag-Hen Classic.



The Tigers fell behind in doubles during their first match of the day against Wesleyan and weren't able to rally in singles play. The Cardinals picked up the first two points of the day with wins at lines three and two doubles, but Wilson Lambeth and Jordan Pitts were able to get Trinity on the board with an 8-7 win at line one.

Wesleyan carried the momentum into singles and were able to pick up three quick points to clinch the match with wins at lines six, five and one singles. Jace Akagi-Okuma and Wilson Lambeth picked up the only two singles points for the Tigers in the first match, but it would prove to be too late. Akagi-Okuma defeated his opponent in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-4 win at line four, while Lambeth rallied back in his match to win a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 thriller at line three. 

Trinity was able to bounce back from the loss by defeating #32 Swarthmore 5-4 in the second round of action. Despite dropping the first doubles point of the match at line three, the Tigers were able to take the remaining two matches to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles. 

Lambeth and Pitts were able to pick up their second win of the day in the top spot with a solid 8-3 win, and first-year duo Wilson Hamilton and Akagi-Okuma picked up the second point of the match with an 8-7 win at line two. 

Swarthmore rallied back in singles and took the first two points at lines one and five to regain the lead, but Trinity kept fighting and picked up the next three points. 

Akagi-Okuma picked up another singles win at line four, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-3 to tie the match at three all. Pitts followed with a win at line two, and Lambeth was able to clinch the match with another thrilling 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 comeback victory at line three. 



Trinity will take on 14th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer (CA) College Tuesday, March 13 in the final day of the Stag-Hen Classic at 9:00 a.m. PDT.
