Trinity Men's Tennis Enjoys Strong First Day at ITA Regionals

San Antonio - Five Tiger singles players and two doubles teams advanced in the main draws at the rain-delayed Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Region Championships.



The first full day of competition was held at Trinity, McFarlin Tennis Center, and the University of the Incarnate Word.

Lars Wiik advanced to the "A" Singles round of 16 with two straight-set victories on Friday, and will take on #1 seed Arthur Fagundes of the University of Texas-Tyler.

Fourth-seeded Wilson Hamilton meets teammate Austin Crist in the third round. Hamilton also won in straight sets in both of his matches, while Crist followed a "default" win with a straight-set victory.

The #3 seed Wilson Lambeth is paired against Gabriel Hidalgo of UT-Tyler, following two straight-set wins on Friday.

Jace Akagi-Okuma plays second seed Alex Dimanche of Southwestern (TX) University, and also won both of his Friday matchups in straight sets.

The top-seeded and defending champion doubles team of Lambeth and Matt Tyer breezed to an 8-0 first-round win on Friday, and will be matched against Hidalgo and Daniel Rodriguez of UT-Tyler in the second round.

Hamilton and Wiik take on fourth seeds Kenneth Hardy and Siddarth Kortikere of Austin College.

Fifth seeds Cameron Bilsbarrow and Liam Crawley were upset 9-7 by the University of Texas-Dallas team of Eric Chen and Ashwin Vaithianathan.



All matches on Saturday will be played on Trinity's courts, starting at 9:00 a.m. The tournament concludes Sunday.
