Men's Tennis Beats Kalamazoo and St. Mary's on Saturday

San Antonio - The Tiger men's tennis team powered through a busy Saturday with a pair of victories, defeating Kalamazoo College 9-0 and St. Mary's University 6-3 to extend the team's win streak to five matches.

Trinity improved its record to 11-8 on the season.  The Tigers opened the day at home with the win over Kalamazoo, then went to nearby St. Mary's for the day's finale.

In doubles, Trinity swept both teams to take control of both matches early.  The Tigers started the day with just their second 9-0 win of the season, then finished by taking two of the six singles matches against the Division II Rattlers.

Against Kalamazoo, Nicolas Moreno and Charlie Curtis won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, then both players won in straight sets in singles.  Moreno took a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1, while Curtis won 6-1, 6-1 from the fifth position.  

Erick DelaFuente and Jordan Mayer were also double winners, starting out with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.  DelaFuente went on to score a 6-2, 6-2 win from the third slot, while Mayer won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.  

Greg Haugen and Connor Dunn won 8-3 in doubles, then Haugen survived the only three-set contest of the opening match, rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-1 win at No. 2 singles.  Pablo Diaz Boom rounded out Trinity's singles winners, taking a 6-2, 6-1 win at the sixth position.

Against St. Mary's, the teams of DelaFuente/Mayer and Haugen/Dunn repeated with victories.  Haugen/Dunn won 8-3 for the second time today, while the top team earned a narrow 9-8 win.  Moreno and Aaron Skinner teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

DelaFuente was Trinity's only double winner in the second match, taking a 6-1, 5-7, 11-9 win at No. 3 singles.  DelaFuente and Haugen were the only singles matches to go to a third set.

Diaz Boom and Curtis were the only other Tigers to take singles victories against St. Mary's, and both came from the fifth and sixth spots in the lineup.  Curtis won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5, while Diaz Boom won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Trinity will be back in action next Saturday, April 6, hosting a pair of team's in the final regular season home matches of the season.  The Tigers take on University of Incarnate Word at 10:00 a.m., followed by a match against Texas Lutheran University at 3:00 p.m.
