Austin, Texas - Trinity's men's tennis team earned a 7-2 road win over Division II St. Edward's University on Thursday afternoon, improving to 4-2 on the season.
The Tigers have win three straight matches after opening the year with a 1-2 record. Trinity is 2-0 this season against Division III opponents, including yesterday's home opener against Gustavus Adolphus.
Trinity swept all three doubles points today, led by No. 1 doubles team Erick DelaFuente and Jordan Mayer (8-6). DelaFuente also won 6-4, 6-4 in singles, and was one of four Tigers to win in both singles and doubles.
Nicolas Moreno and Charlie Curtis teamed up for an 8-3 doubles victory, then also won their singles contests as well. Moreno won 6-1, 6-3 from the No. 3 position, while Curtis fought for a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
Connor Dunn was the fourth player to win both of his matches today, beginning with his 8-2 doubles win with Greg Haugen. Dunn then won 6-0, 6-3 from the sixth spot, while Haugen fell 4-6, 4-6 at No. 1 singles. Ethan Jayamanne suffered a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss at No. 5 for the Tigers.
Trinity will not return to action until February 16, when the Tigers host Tyler Junior College and Laredo Community College. Trinity defeated Tyler JC 7-2 earlier this season in Abilene, Texas.
