San Antonio - The fifth-ranked Trinity men's soccer team will host the opening two rounds of the 62-draw NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship on Saturday and Sunday.
Trinity (15-1-3) plays Chapman (CA) University (11-7-1) in the first round at 5:00 p.m. Saturday. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) (15-3-1) takes on Southwestern (TX) University 12-5-3) at 7:30 p.m. The winners advance to the second-round game at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
The NCAA Sectionals are scheduled for November 16-18 at sites to be determined. The Semifinals and Final will be held November 30-December 1 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Led by 28th-year Head Coach Paul McGinlay, the Tigers are making their 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance and the 17th in a row. Trinity won the NCAA Division III Championship in 2003 and finished as runner-up in 2007. The Tigers have also advanced to the Semifinals three times and to the Quarterfinals on 10 occasions.
This season, Trinity earned the automatic bid by winning its seventh consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and the 21st overall. Last weekend in Georgetown, Texas, the Tigers and host Southwestern battled to a 1-1 tie. Trinity secured the conference title by claiming a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks.
In the 2017 NCAA postseason event, the Tigers hosted the first two rounds and defeated the University of Texas-Tyler 5-1 in the opener. Mary Hardin-Baylor edged Trinity 3-2 in the second round.
Ticket prices are set by the NCAA. The prices for each day of the weekend games are $6 general admission, $3 for students with I.D. and seniors (age 55 and over), and $2 for children ages 3-12. Tickets may be purchased at the gates, which will open at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
