Georgetown, Texas - The 10th-ranked Trinity men's soccer team claimed a 3-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road victory over Southwestern (TX) University Tuesday night.
All three of Trinity's goals came in the first 21 minutes of action, beginning with Quentin Van Der Lee's solo shot less than five minutes into the game.
Austin Michaelis scored the first of his two goals in the game in the 12th minute of action, then added his second to make it 3-0 Tigers after just 20:17 had elapsed in the game. Wesley Mitchell supplied the assist on the first goal by Michaelis, which turned out to be the game-winner.
Trinity outshot the home team 11-4 in the first half of action, while the Tigers held a slim 5-3 shooting margin in the second half.
All five shots by the Tigers in the second half were on goal, but Trinity was held without a goal following the initial scoring spurt.
Southwestern broke up the bid for a shutout by scoring with just under two minutes remaining in the game.
Trinity upped its overall record to 9-1-1 and a league-leading 7-1-0 in the SCAC, while Southwestern dropped to 6-3-1 and 4-2-1 in conference play.
The two teams will meet in Trinity's regular season home finale on October 23.
Austin Michaelis recorded his fourth multi-goal game of the season, and he leads the team with 11 goals and four game-winners. Michaelis has chalked up 42 career goals and stands in seventh place in Trinity's record books.
The Tigers travel to Shreveport, Louisiana, for a Sunday SCAC game with Centenary (LA) College at noon.
