Sherman, Texas - The eighth-ranked Trinity men's soccer team opened its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road weekend with a 4-1 decision over Austin (TX) College Friday night.
Though Trinity held an 8-3 advantage in total shots and had a total of five shots on goal in the 45 minutes, the only goal of the first period came on a penalty kick in the 31st minute of play.
Brady Johnston converted the penalty after Austin was booked with a yellow card for a foul in the box.
Less than four mintues after halftime, Austin tied the game with a penalty shot of its own.
Trinity's defense allowed just one more shot the rest of the game, but Austin kept the game tied until the 81st minute. With just under 10 minutes left in the game, Andrea Codispoti sank the game-winner on a Brady Johnston assist.
Austin Michaelis buried the final goal with his header on a corner from Hallenberger with less than 90 seconds to play, sealing Trinity's road win over Austin.
Trinity won its seventh consecutive game and improved to 8-0-1 overall and 6-0-0 in the SCAC, while Austin College dropped to 3-3-2 and 2-3-1 SCAC.
The goal by Austin Michaelis was his ninth of the season, and the 40th of his career. Michaelis moved into a tie for eighth place in Trinity's record books with Yuri Ribeiro (2010-13).
Andrea Codispoti produced his sixth scoring play of the year.
Brady Johnston's goal was the fifth of the season, while his two assists were the first of the campaign.
Trinity heads to Irving, Texas, for a Sunday conference game at noon with the University of Dallas (TX).
