San Antonio – Trinity's ninth-ranked men's soccer team opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 home shutout over Austin (TX) College.
Trinity opened the scoring in the 10th minute of action as Austin Michaelis scored the first of his two goals on the night for the eventual game-winner.
Austin was not able to get off an on-target shot in the first half of action, and the Tiger defense held them to just just three total attempts.
After drawing a foul in the box in the 31st minute, the Tigers missed out on a chance to take a two-goal lead as the penalty kick sailed over the bar.
With less than four minutes remaining in the first half, Ryan Hunter ripped a one-touch goal into the corner of the net for a score that gave Trinity that multi-goal lead. Hunter was assisted by Liam Looney and Rodrigo Castillo on the goal.
Trinity remained undefeated at 3-0-1 after its first conference matchup of the season, while Austin fell to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the SCAC.
Austin Michaelis recorded the second multi-goal game of the season after netting a score in each half. It is also the eighth time in his career that Michaelis has scored multiple goals in a game.
