San Antonio - The 17th-ranked Trinity men's soccer team opened its home weekend with a 3-0 victory over Hardin-Simmons (TX) University Friday night.
Trinity had a flurry of scoring chances in the final minutes of the first half, but a pair of shots on goal from Codispoti and another from Joshua Lai were kept out of the net, and the score remained 1-0 at the half.
Codispoti provided an assist in the 58th minute to put Trinity up 2-0, as Brady Johnston scored on a header for the Tigers.
Just minutes later, Blake Lieberman had back-to-back saves to keep Hardin-Simmons off the board.
On a free kick in the 68th minute, Codispoti fired a ball into the box and Hardin-Simmons tried to clear it away, but Lai found it on the left side of the goal and buried it in the back of the net for the game's final score.
Trinity upped its record to 2-0-1, while Hardin-Simmons dropped to 0-3-0. The Tigers recorded their first clean-sheet game of the young season.
Brady Johnston scored his second goal of the campaign and the ninth of his career.
Blake Lieberman chalked up five saves for the second straight game and has 13 for the season. Lieberman now has 75 career saves in his column.
The Tigers outshot the Cowboys 19-14 overall and 7-5 in shots on goal.
Trinity hosts the University of Texas-Dallas at 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
