#4 Trinity Beats Schreiner to Open SCAC Play

San Antonio - The fourth-ranked Trinity men's soccer team opened its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign with a 2-0 shutout over Schreiner (TX) University Tuesday night.

Jacob Hallenberger started off the scoring for the Tigers on a goal in the 13th minute of the game, with an assist from Austin Michaelis.

Though Trinity held a 13-3 advantage in first-half shots, the Hallenberger goal was the only score of the first half.

Each team produced eight shots in the second half, but it was Wesley Mitchell slamming home a cross from Neil Verwillow in the 61st minute that proved to be the lone score in the final period.

Three of Schreiner's eight shots were on-goal in the second half, but goalkeeper Blake Lieberman notched three saves to preserve the shutout.

The defending conference champion Tigers remained undefeated at 5-0-0, and are now 1-0-0 in SCAC play. Schreiner dropped to 2-3-0 and 0-1-0 SCAC.

Two first-year players scored Trinity's goals. Jacob Hallenberger chalked up his third goal of his early collegiate career, and the second game-winner. Wesley Mitchell accounted for his second scoring play.

Austin Michaelis amassed his third assist of the season, and 14th of his career.

Blake Lieberman now has 15 saves this season, and has recorded three shutouts in five games.

Trinity continues its SCAC homestand Friday by taking on the University of Dallas (TX) at 8:00 p.m.
