Tiger Men's Soccer Opens Weekend With Hard-Fought Victory

San Antonio - The sixth-ranked Trinity men’s soccer team blanked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) Colleges 1-0 on Friday night.

Trinity (2-0-0) won its second straight game by virtue of a penalty kick, and from the same player. Senior All-American Tom Carwile blasted in the PK in the 79th minute of play against the Stags. Last Tuesday, Carwile kicked the game-winning penalty kick as the Tigers edged Schreiner University 1-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and season-opening matchup.

Chad Margotta defended the goal for the Tigers on Friday, and posted five saves. The two teams were close on shots on goal, as Trinity recorded seven, and Claremont had five. The Stags played their first game of the season.

Up next for the Tigers will be a meeting with No. 7 Brandeis (MA) University at 8:00 p.m. Saturday. Brandeis pulled out a 2-1 double-overtime victory earlier in the day over Hardin-Simmons University.
