Tiger Men Down Centenary for Second Straight Victory

Shreveport, Louisiana - Trinity's men's basketball team earned its second consecutive victory with a 67-62 road win over Centenary (LA) College on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME SUMMARY

Trinity had a slow start to the game by missing eight of its first nine shots, but the Tiger defense kept things close as Centenary only led 5-2 during that stretch. The Tigers did find themselves down 13-6 with under 12 minutes left in the first half and still trailed by six as the clocked ticked under eight minutes remaining.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Tyler Peavy tied the game up, though, and then Aaron Knopp put Trinity in front for the first time with his layup on the following possession. After Centenary tied the game 20-20, Peavy drained another long-distance shot to put the Tigers back in front with less than five minutes left until halftime. After Centenary hit a three of its own to edge back in front with 3:40 to play, Trinity scored the final eight points of the period to take a 31-24 lead into the break.

After halftime, Centenary scored five quick points to cut the margin to just two, but Trinity scored six of the next eight to push the lead to 37-31. Trinity could never quite pull away, though, as the Gents hit just enough shots to keep the deficit to no more than seven points. After Isaiah Specks hit a three-pointer to make it 47-40 with 8:06 left in the game, Centenary used a 9-1 run to take the lead.

That lead last just four seconds, though, as Matthew Colliflower's layup put Trinity back in front 50-49 and the Tigers never trailed again. The Gents were back within one (52-51) with 3:53 to play when Danny Rivara started a 7-0 Trinity run that lasted just over two minutes and put the visitors comfortably in front 59-51 with 1:51 to go. The Tigers then hit 6-6 at the foul line over the final 28 seconds to seal the victory.
