Men's Basketball Downs Hardin-Simmons for Fourth Straight Win

San Antonio – The Tiger men's basketball team defeated Hardin-Simmons (TX) University 76-50 for the team's fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday night.



Trinity led from the start, scoring the first five points of the game and taking a 16-6 advantage less than six minutes into the contest.

Hardin-Simmons cut a double-digit Tiger lead to just six on two different occasions, but the Cowboys would get no closer the rest of the way.

The Tigers shot 48.4% (15-31) from the field in the first period, holding Hardin-Simmons to just eight field goals and a 27.6% shooting clip, and taking a 35-24 lead into the locker room.

Trinity scored the first five points after halftime to extend the lead even more, then pushed that lead to 21 points with 13:08 remaining in the game.

After Hardin-Simmons scored to drop the lead under 20, the Tigers went on an 18-4 run to run the lead out to 33 points (74-41) and effectively end the game.

Trinity finished with a 42% shooting night as a team, connecting on 29-69 from the field. Hardin-Simmons was held to just 20-63 shooting (31.7%), and the Tigers also forced 17 turnovers by the visitors. For the game, Trinity led 12-0 on second-chance points and 19-9 on points off turnovers.



Trinity improves to 5-2 with the win, while Hardin-Simmons falls to 1-5.

Danny Rivara led all players with a solid double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds in just 26 minutes of action.

Matt Jones dished out a Trinity-best four assists in the game, tying the school's all-time record for a career. Jones draws even with William Young (2011-15) with 376 career helpers.

Isaiah Specks came off the bench with 15 points and six rebounds in just 20 minutes, hitting 5-8 from the field and 2-4 from beyond the arc.

Jayden Holden knocked down 7-10 from the field on his way to 14 points in 16 minutes, while Brooks Mays and Stephen Molina chipped in with 11 points each.



The Tigers will be off for the next 10 days, but will remain home for the Leslie Robinson Invitational Classic Tournament on December 15-16. Trinity will host Southwestern (TX) University, Springfield (MA) College, and East Texas Baptist University over the two-day event.
