Sherman, Texas - The Tiger men’s basketball team lost its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener 60-48 to Austin College Friday night at Hughey Gym.
Trinity dropped to 1-11 overall this season, while the Kangaroos improved to 6-6 and 2-0 in SCAC play. Trinity and Austin College will play again February 13 at Sams Gymnasium in San Antonio.
A.J. Pulliam paced the Tigers with 11 points and six rebounds, while Brian Blum added 10 points and four rebounds. Craig Saltarelli scored nine points and pulled in five rebounds. Matt Jones (three points) shelled out four assists and grabbed five rebounds. Matt Selling (two points) also had five rebounds for the Tigers.
Austin College held a 31-21 advantage at halftime, leading by as much as 15 points (29-14) with three minutes to go. The Tigers made a late second-half rally and were down by seven points (45-52) on a three-point jumper by Jones with 3:30 on the clock. From that point on, Trinity's only scoring play came on a shot beyond the arc by Saltarelli with 36 seconds to go.
Jeremy Swisher of Austin College led the game with 17 points, and Brian Baehl contributed 12. Austin Freet (eight points) posted a game-high 16 rebounds.
The Tigers continue their road trip Saturday by taking on the University of Dallas in a SCAC matchup at 6:00 p.m. in Irving, Texas.
