Paul Michalak is in his 11th season on the Trinity football coaching staff. In addition to his duties as assistant head coach, he is also the Tigers defensive coordinator.
The Tigers were ranked 15th in NCAA Division III Red Zone defense in the 2018 season, posting a mark of .559.
Three Trinity Tigers have been elected Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year during Coach Michalak’s tenure, including Julian Turner in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Defensive lineman Luke Packard received D3football.com All-America honors in 2016 under the leadership of Coach Michalak. Seven Tiger players were selected for the All-Southern Athletic Association Defense Teams during the 2017 and 2018 campaigns.
Additionally, Coach Michalak coordinates all of Trinity’s youth and prospect football camps.
Coach Michalak worked for three seasons at his alma mater, Carthage (WI) College, prior to joining the Trinity Trinity staff. He was the defensive line coach and graduate assistant coach.
During his playing days at Carthage, Coach Michalak lettered for four years from 2002-2006. He was a member of the 2004 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship team which was ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III. The Red Men were also the top-ranked defense in the nation that season.
Coach Michalak earned his undergraduate degree with a double-major in business administration and marketing. He received a master’s degree from Carthage in 2009.
Coach Michalak and his wife, Janna, are the parents of four young sons: Liam, Ethan, Owen, and Wyatt.
