San Antonio - Twelve Trinity football players have received All-Southern Athletic Association accolades.
Following Trinity's second season in the SAA, two players were tabbed for the First Team, six made the Second Team, and four were selected for the Honorable Mention Team.
Senior offensive lineman Joel Holmes was elected to the All-SAA First Team Offense for the second straight season. Holmes was earlier selected for the D3football.com Preseason All-America Third Team. Last season, Holmes made the D3football.com All-South Region Third Team. He was a 2015 All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honoree.
Junior defensive back Nic Hover was named to the All-SAA First Team Defense. Hover led the Tigers with four interceptions and was third on the team with 53 total tackles.
McDowell was voted to the 2016 All-SCAC Honorable Mention Offense, and this season became the 11th Trinity football player to reach 1,900 career rushing yards. He rushed for 716 yards and three touchdowns. Lavine made the 2017 All-SAA Honorable Mention Offense and the 2016 All-SCAC First Team Offense. He finished the season just shy of 2,000 career receiving yards and is poised to become the eighth player in school history to accomplish that feat. Lavine snagged 47 passes for 613 yards and nine touchdowns. Stewart was an SAA Special Teams Player of the Week. He caught 37 passes for 698 yards and six touchdowns, as well as returning eight punts for 189 yards and a touchdown.
Junior linebacker Kievan Boudreaux and sophomore defensive lineman Kale Ridge received All-SAA Second Team Defense accolades. Boudreaux was twice selected this season as an SAA Defensive Player of the Week. He led the Tigers with 64 tackles, as well as posting 5.5 tackles for a loss of 11 yards, and 1.5 sacks. Ridge chalked up 31 tackles, with seven for a loss of 31 yards, and three QB sacks for 14 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Wyatt Messex and senior tight end Elliott Blott were named to the All-SAA Honorable Mention Offense. Messex completed 114-204 passes for 1,672 yards and 20 touchdowns, as well as rushing for 249 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior defensive back Vail Miesfeld and junior defensive lineman Seyi Soyebo were elected to the All-SAA Honorable Mention Defense. Miesfeld was named to this season's Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 NCAA Division III Football Team. He previously was tabbed for the 2017 All-SAA Second Team Defense. Miesfeld posted 42 tackles and led the Tigers with seven pass breakups. Soyebo paced the team in tackles for a loss with 7.5 for 48 yards, while picking up 34 total tackles. He also posted a team-best six QB hurries.
Led by fifth-year Head Coach Jerheme Urban, the Tigers finished the season by winning their final four games. Included in the victories was a win over ninth-ranked and SAA champion Berry (GA) College. Trinity recorded a 7-3 overall record and placed third in the SAA with a 6-2 mark.
