Trinity Football Blanks Austin College

Sherman, Texas - The Tiger football team scored a 14-0 shutout victory in Southern Athletic Association action at Austin (TX) College on Saturday afternoon.

GAME SUMMARY

Neither team managed much offense in the first quarter as each team punted twice to start the game.

The Tigers put together a 15-play drive that spanned 70 yards and put Trinity in the red zone, but the drive ended with an interception in the end zone and the game remained scoreless.

On the ensuing drive, Trinity's Eddy Luna returned the favor with an interception of his own that he returned 36 yards to the Austin 16 yard line. The Tigers scored on the next play to take a 7-0 lead with just under 10 minutes left until the half.

Austin answered with its best drive of the game, moving inside the Trinity red zone before a penalty pushed them back to the Tiger 31. The very next play was an interception by Nic Hover that put the ball back in the hands of the Tiger offense.

After Trinity punted on its final drive of the first half, Austin took over at its own 20 with just 23 seconds left. The Tiger defense held and Trinity called timeout with four seconds remaining to force Austin to punt the ball. Trinity blocked the kick, but the return was stopped at the five yard line to keep it a 7-0 game at the half.

Trinity's defense held on the first drive of the second half, then the offense piled up 56 yards on 10 plays and scored a 14-yard touchdown from Wyatt Messex to Chris Stewart

The offenses stalled again the rest of the quarter, but Austin took advantage of a Trinity turnover early in the fourth for its best scoring chance. Austin had first-and-goal from the seven yard line, but the Tiger defense stood tall by allowing just two more yards and making a crucial stop on fourth-and-goal with just under 10 minutes to play.

The home team once again had first-and-goal at the Trinity two on its next drive, but Trinity's defense had another fourth-and-goal stop to keep the Austin scoreless.

After the Tiger offense punted again, Austin completed a 45-yard pass to the Trinity 11 yard line for another scoring chance. Another interception by Hover made it three straight defensive stands for Trinity and the Tigers were able to run out the clock to end the game.
