San Antonio - Trinity Assistant Football Coach Matt Uzzell has been appointed head coach at his alma mater, San Antonio's McCollum High School.
Coach Uzzell im completed five overall seasons on the Tiger staff. He served four campaigns as offensive coordinator, returning to campus prior to the 2014 season. After earning a bachelor's degree from Trinity in 2001, Coach Uzzell became the Tigers' offensive line coach for one season. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Division III second round that year.
He was the offensive coordinator of San Antonio's Southside High School from 2009-2013. During his tenure, the Cardinals posted two district runner-up finishes. Coach Uzzell also coached Southside's track & field team.
Coach Uzzell was the defensive line coach at San Antonio's Harlandale High School from 2002-2009. He also served as special teams coordinator and coached the track & field team. The Indians football squad reached the state quarterfinals and won two district championships during the time period.
As a key member of the Trinity team, Coach Uzzell was a standout offensive guard. He was elected to the USA Football All-America Team and was tabbed for the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Team in 2000.
The Tigers won the SCAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III Playoffs during each of Coach Uzzell's years of competition from 1997-2000. Trinity advanced to the national semifinals in 1998 and 1999.
As a McCollum Cowboy, Coach Uzzell was selected as an All-Greater San Antonio offensive lineman and was a unanimous All-District honoree. He graduated from McCollum in 1997.
