San Antonio - Senior outfielder Jake Martin was elected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Year, highlighting 10 Trinity players who earned All-SCAC honors.
The announcement of all-conference teams was made at the SCAC Baseball Tournament, and voting was conducted exclusively by conference baseball head coaches.
Martin is the first Tiger to be named Player of the Year since Jeremy Wolf in 2016, and he is just the seventh overall player from Trinity to earn the honor. One of five Trinity players on the 2019 All-SCAC First Team, Martin was also an Honorable Mention All-SCAC selection in 2017. Entering the weekend, he led the team with 59 hits and 41 runs scored, as well as recording team-highs of 15 doubles and seven home runs.
Junior outfielder Rafe Chaumette was selected for the All-SCAC First Team for the third straight year, and he leads Trinity with a .370 batting average and 37 RBI during regular season play. Junior catcher Michael Goodrich was tabbed for the All-SCAC First Team for the second consecutive year after hitting .344 with 34 RBI and six home runs.
Senior Jeff Lonnecker made the All-SCAC First Team in the relief pitcher position. A Second Team honoree last season, Lonnecker posted a 2.64 ERA this year, over 47.2 innings of work. He stood at 3-1 with three saves in the regular season, recording 52 strikeouts. Sophomore pitcher Corey Cater was an All-SCAC First Team selection, after making the Honorable Mention Team last year. Cater posted the team's best ERA at 2.17 and had a record of 7-2, as well as a team-leading four saves. He recorded a team-leading 65 strikeouts over 62.1 innings, and made 19 appearances on the mound.
The three Trinity junior players elected to the All-SCAC Second Team were first-time honorees. Outfielder Mason Meredith was second on the team with a .351 batting average. Meredith scored 40 runs, cracked six home runs, drove in 36 runs, hit six doubles, racked up 77 total bases, and stole 7-8 bases. Designated hitter Brannen Caraway was .351 batter during the season, collected 36 total bases, scored 17 runs, and drove in 14 more. Caraway also stole eight bases on 10 attempts. Pitcher Mark Tindall sported a 5-0 record on the mound, along with picking up three saves over 16 mound appearances. Tindall hurled for 50.0 innings for a 3.96 ERA, and sat down 55 opposing players.
Senior second baseman Logan Morrison was tabbed for the All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team, and was a Second Team selection last season. Morrison hit .254 with 37 runs, 19 RBI, two home runs, and 11-13 stolen bases. Senior first baseman Dalys Binder was also an All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team selection. Binder hit .313, accounted for 61 total bases, 22 runs, 22 RBI, four home runs, and eight doubles.
Led by 21st-year Head Coach Tim Scannell, the fourth-ranked Tigers are the #2 seeds in the SCAC Tournament. Trinity chalked up a 30-9 regular-season overall record and was 14-4 in conference standings, securing a share of the SCAC Regular Season Championship.
