San Antonio - The Trinity baseball team is now ranked third by the latest D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top-25 Poll.
Previously ranked #1, the Tigers went 2-2 in the ranking period from March 18-24. Trinity defeated NAIA member Our Lady of the Lake (TX) University and took one of three games from Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Texas Lutheran University, who was ranked eighth in the poll. The Tigers lost a 10-inning game to the University of Chicago (IL) last Monday, which will be considered in the next ranking period.
The Tigers are tied for third in the NCAA Division III in double plays with 24 in the column. Trinity stands alone at #8 in total hits with 249 and is tied for 10th in home runs with 16.
Jake Martin is ranked in the top ten in Division III with 29 runs, 37 hits and 62 total bases. Left-hander James Nittoli is tied for second with five victories and is tied for ninth with seven starts on the mound. Relief pitcher Corey Cater is tied for fourth place with 14 appearances.
The Tigers are 17-6 overall and stand at 4-2 in the SCAC. Trinity will host a three-game conference series with Centenary (LA) College this weekend. The opening game is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday, and a doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m.
