San Antonio - The top-ranked Trinity baseball team opened a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with an 8-3 victory over #8 Texas Lutheran University on Friday night.
Mason Meredith got the scoring started for the Tigers with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, then Trinity opened the game up with a three-run second inning.
The scoring continued in the third as Michael Goodrich hit a solo home run of his own, then Logan Morrison drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in another run in the fifth that made it a 6-0 Trinity lead.
Texas Lutheran broke up the shutout with a two-out RBI double in the sixth, but the Tigers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning for a 7-1 lead.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the seventh to cut into the lead, but those would be the last scores for the visitors.
Martin opened the eighth with Trinity's third solo home run of the night to account for the final score, and Texas Lutheran was held to just one hit over the final 2.2 innings.
The Tigers won their 10th straight game and improved to 17-3 overall and 4-0 in the SCAC. The Bulldogs dropped to 13-6 and 0-1 SCAC.
Jake Martin batted 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, including his third home run of the season.
Rafe Chaumette went 4-5 with his second triple of the season, as well as scoring a run.
Dalys Binder collected a pair of his that included his second homer of the year.

Mark Tindall (3-0) took a shutout into the sixth inning and finished the night with seven strikeouts. He allowed three runs on five hits over 6.1 innings of work.
Corey Cater allowed no runs and just one hit over the final 2.2 innings in relief, striking out five batters.
Trinity and Texas Lutheran will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m.
