San Antonio – The #1 Trinity baseball team finished off a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series with a 7-4 win over the University of Dallas (TX) on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity fell behind early in the game for the third time in the series, but was able to battle back for another win.
Dallas started the scoring with two runs in the second, but the Tigers came back with a run in the second and two more in the third to take a 3-2 lead.
Trinity scored twice more in the fourth, followed immediately by a two-run fifth inning for the Crusaders to make it just a 5-4 Tiger advantage.
Trinity pitchers held Dallas hitless over the final four innings to preserve the lead, finishing with 10 strikeouts overall.
Trinity improves to 31-4 overall and 13-2 in SCAC play this season, while Dallas fell to 12-23 and 2-13 in conference. The Tigers are tied atop the SCAC standings with Centenary (LA) College.
John Tucker was 3-4 with two doubles and three runs scored in the game, leading a Trinity offense that pounded out 11 hits in the game.
Case Williams (3-0) picked up the win in relief for the Tigers, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out six batters.
Branden Hance came on to close out the game, holding Dallas without a hit over the final three innings to earn the save. Hance issued just one intentional walk and struck out three batters.
The Tigers will remain at home and be back in action tomorrow, hosting Our Lady of the Lake (TX) University at 7:00 p.m.
