Sherman, Texas – Trinity's second-ranked baseball team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series sweep with a 12-2 road win over Austin (TX) College.
Trinity continued its prolific offensive weekend with 12 more runs on 12 hits – including eight extra-base hits in the game.
The Tigers started fairly quietly with a single run in the top of the first, but the offense scored three more times in the second and twice in the third to take a 6-0 lead after the first third of the game.
Austin College broke up the shutout with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Trinity hit back with two more runs in the fifth to push the lead to 8-1. The Roos scored their last run of the game in the fifth.
Trinity picked up the scoring again with a run in the seventh, then scored three times in the eighth to set up the run rule to end the game.
Trinity improved to 17-1 overall this season, remaining unbeaten in SCAC play with a 6-0 record. Austin fell to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Rafe Chaumette paced Trinity's offense with three runs scored and two RBI, going 3-5 with a pair of doubles in the game.
Michael Davis hit his fourth homer of the season to tie for the team lead, picking up three RBI in today's victory.
Holden Nix (2-0) yielded two runs on six hits over seven innings of work, recording six strikeouts. Corey Cater finished off the game with a 1-2-3 eighth inning, striking out the final batter of the game.
The Tigers will be back on the road on Tuesday, facing off against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) at 6:00 p.m. in Belton, Texas.
