San Antonio – The fifth-ranked Tiger baseball team finished off its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series with Southwestern by winning 6-2 and 13-0 in a Saturday doubleheader.
Trinity kicked off the scoring in game one with Rafe Chaumette's solo homer in the bottom of the first, but Southwestern battled back with runs in the second and sixth innings to take a 2-1 lead.
The Tigers wasted no time in reclaiming the lead though, as Joey Pecoraro drove in the go-ahead run with his two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Trinity then piled on three insurance runs in the eighth, highlighted by Blake Frampton's two-run single that made it a 6-2 Tiger lead.
Trinity carried that late momentum into the second game, beginning with a five-run first inning that set the tone for the rest of the afternoon. Jake Martin hit a two-RBI triple and Joey Pecoraro had a two-run round-tripper to account for four of the five runs scored.
Michael Goodrich's leadoff homer in the third made it a 3-0 Tiger lead, then Trinity scored six runs on six hits – including another long ball from Goodrich – to put the game out of reach at 12-0.
Trinity upped its record to 14-1 overall with the team's eighth consecutive victory, while Southwestern fell to 6-7 on the season. Both teams began conference play this weekend with Trinity sweeping the three-game series.
Michael Goodrich was 3-4 with two home runs, three runs scored, and five RBI to lead Trinity's offense in the second game.
Oretsky began the day with a 3-4 performance, while Chaumette and Michael Davis both had two hits and two runs scored in game one.
Pecoraro and Frampton both had two RBI in the opener as well.
Trinity will travel to Austin (TX) College for a three-game SCAC series in Sherman, Texas, next weekend. The series begins with a Saturday doubleheader that begins at 1:00 p.m.
