Trinity Baseball Defeats Texas Lutheran in SCAC Tournament Opener

Grand Prairie, Texas - The third-seeded Trinity baseball team took out #2 seed Texas Lutheran University 11-2 to start its part in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.



The Bulldogs opened the scoring with a run in the second inning at AirHogs Stadium.

Defending champion Trinity answered with two runs on four hits to take the lead in the third. Three more runs in the fourth, and one in the fifth, would give the Tigers a 6-1 advantage,

Texas Lutheran scored its final run in the seventh inning. Then came the Tigers' ninth inning, with five runs, five hits, on one TLU error. George Haaland cracked a two-RBI single, and Scott Walters drove in a pair of runs with a triple.



The Tigers won their sixth straight game, and improved to 26-14, while Texas Lutheran dropped to 21-18.

Scott Walters was hot at the plate, batting 4-6 with three RBI and one run. Included in his portfolio was a triple.

George Haaland and Zachary Oretsky each drove in two runs. Oretsky also crossed the plate twice for the Tigers.

Jake Martin and Mason Meredith also belonged to the two-runs club.

Dylan McGee (5-2) was the starting pitcher and picked up the victory. McGee hurled for five innings and struck out five batters, while allowing only one earned run.

Mark Tindall, Chris Tate, and Ian Hussian had mound duty the rest of the way. The trio fanned four batters and yielded only run earned run.



The Tigers continue the double-elimination tournament Saturday, with top-seeded and sixth-ranked Centenary (LA) College at noon in the semifinals.
