Trinity Baseball Falls to Texas Lutheran in Opening of SCAC Series

Seguin, Texas - The Trinity baseball team lost the opening of a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series 10-2 to Texas Lutheran University Friday night.



The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on one hit and Trinity error. Five runs were added to TLU's lead in innings three through five, and they scored their last runs of the game in the seventh on three hits.

Trinity sparked up in the eighth inning by scoring two runs. An RBI single by shortstop Jimmy Tatum scored the first run, and the Tigers were able to capitilize and score off a Bulldog error. In the ninth, Trinity got on base by a walk, but then went down by three straight outs as the game ended.



The Tigers now stand at 10-9 overall and are 2-2 in the SCAC. 

Pinch-hitter Jimmy Tatum posted Trinity's only RBI with his single in the eighth inning. Michael Goodrich crossed the plate for the Tigers, as did Mason Meredith who scored an unearned run.

Dylan McGee (1-2) was the first of six pitchers used by the Tigers. McGee pitched for .1 innings and took the loss. Ryan Manz was the fourth pitcher on the mound for Trinity and fanned four batters. Troy Nelson then took over for two innings and was also able to strike out three Bulldogs.


Trinity and Texas Lutheran will play a doubleheader Saturday,with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
