Alpine, Texas - The Trinity baseball team earned a 7-4 win on Sunday afternoon to take two out of three games during a weekend series at Sul Ross State (TX) University.
Sul Ross took the early lead with runs in the second and third innings, but the Tigers tied things up with a two-run double in the top of the fourth.
The Lobos later regained the lead with a score in the bottom of the sixth, but Trinity answered with a five-run explosion in the seventh, highlighted by three doubles that left the Tigers in front 7-3.
Trinity allowed a run in the bottom of the ninth, but after two extra-inning games to start the series, the Tigers finished this one in just nine.
Trinity now stands at 6-5 this season, while Sul Ross falls to 7-8 overall. The Tigers took Friday night's opener 5-4 in 12 innings, then the Lobos rallied with two runs in the 11th to win Saturday's game.
Kevin Flores went six innings as the Tiger starter, striking out three batters, and allowing three runs on 11 hits. Ryan Manz (1-0) picked up the win in relief, giving up just one run on one hit over two innings. Mark Tindall came on with two on and no outs in the ninth, allowing a double, and then striking out three straight batters to end the game.
The Tigers travel to Belton, Texas, Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. game with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
