Coach Breuer led the Tiger women to a sixth-place national finish at the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships. It marked the best-ever performance by a Tiger cross country team at nationals. Trinity’s women have advanced to the NCAA national championships four times in the last five years as a team.
Caitlin Masse placed eighth at the 2009 NCAA Women’s Championship, the highest finish in history by a Trinity student-athlete, and earned All-America honors. In 2007, Emily Loeffler became the first Tiger runner to be named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year. She became Trinity’s first-ever cross country All-American.
Coach Breuer was named the South/Southeast Region Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2008 by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Prior to focusing on cross country, Coach Breuer had a highly successful eight-year career as Trinity’s head men’s and women’s track and field coach. Coach Breuer led the Tigers to four women’s (2003, 2004, 2006, and 2007) and three men’s (2003, 2007, and 2008) SCAC Championships. She was named conference coach of the year during the championship periods (seven times).
A major highlight of Coach Breuer’s track and field coaching career was Christyn Schumann, who won four NCAA Women’s Outdoor and Indoor High Jump National Championships. Jerheme Urban, now a wide receiver of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, was elected SCAC Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year four times.
For her efforts, Coach Breuer was named the 2007 South Region
Women’s Coach of the Year – for the second consecutive
time – by the USTFCCCA.
Coach Breuer, who attended Belmont Abbey College (N.C.), was an
All-American cross country athlete and a two-time Academic
All-American. She later was a graduate assistant coach at the
University of Tennessee, before becoming the head track and field
coach at Hanover College (Ind.).
Coach Breuer resides in San Antonio with her husband, Ed, and
four children: three daughters, Molly, Shannon, Cassidy; and one
