Steup and Murphy Enjoy Strong Performances at NCAA Championships
Winneconne, Wis. - Trinity University Tigers Rosemary Steup and Maddie Murphy placed 74th and 82nd, respectively, in Saturday's NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship race.
Steup (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) ran the 6k event in 22:07.19, and Murphy (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) clocked in at 22:12.05. There were 277 runners competing at the Lake Breeze Golf Course event, hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
The Tiger duo qualified for nationals for the second straight
year. In 2010, at Waverly, Iowa, Steup finished in 87th place
(22:19.9), and Murphy placed in the No. 153 slot (22:49).
Steup and Murphy earned berths in this year's NCAA Championship
with high finishes at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Seguin,
Texas, hosted by Texas Lutheran. Steup placed fifth with a time of
22:52.9, and Murphy was sixth, clocking in at 22.53.9.
Murphy captured the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title at Sewanee, Tenn., with a time of 22:07.90. Steup, the 2010 runner-up, placed fourth, crossing the finish line in 22:24.78.
