Trinity Women Continue Winning Ways, Men 3rd at UIW Invite
San Antonio, TX – The Tiger women notched their second consecutive team win in humid, muddy conditions, at the University of the Incarnate Word Invitational on Saturday, led by a strong 1-2 punch from Rosemary Steup and Michelle Oberndorf. The Trinity men finished third as a team behind Texas A&M Kingsville and host University of the Incarnate Word, despite a strong showing from the Junior duo of Francisco Escobedo and Sal Perdomo, who finished 4th and 6th, respectively.
After Steup (19:43) and Oberndorf (20:04), who finished 2nd and 3rd individually behind a strong performance by UIW freshman Amanda Bishop (19:43), the Tigers put four more runners into the top 15, with first years Jessica Pagano (20:39), Colleen Adams (21:13), and Autumn Kervella (21:16) rounding out the top five scoring positions. Despite holding out usual top 5 finishers Maddie Murphy and Vanessa Moreno, the squad handily defeated the host UIW Cardinals by a score of 39 to 48.
After another solid finish from Escobedo (27:45) and Perdomo (28:04), Sophomore Gerardo Hernandez (28:54) made a move into the Tiger top 3 with an 11th place finish. Junior Mark Greene (28:59) followed close behind in 15th place, with first year Brandon Douglas (30:20) rounding out the top 5 with a 30th place finish.
The Tigers will return to action in one week at the NCAA Division III Pre-National meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.
