Trinity Women's Cross Country Team Receives Academic Honor
San Antonio -- Trinity University Tigers women's cross country has qualified as a United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III All-Academic Team.
The Tigers, led by head Coach Jenny Breuer, have a combined grade point average of 3.19.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better, and have compiled a score (finished at least five runners) at their respective NCAA regional championship.
Two Trinity runners placed high at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Memphis, and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
First-year student-athletes Rosemary Steup (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) finished fourth at the regional, and Maddie Murphy (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) placed 10th.
The two Tigers went on to the NCAA Championships at Waverly, Iowa. Steup finished 87th of 279 competitors, and Murphy placed in the 153rd slot.
Earlier, Steup was runner-up at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, and was named the SCAC Freshman of the Year.
Steup was recently selected for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, as an individual.
