Tiger Runners Compete at NCAA Cross Country Championships
Waverly, Iowa - Trinity Tigers first-year runners Rosemary Steup and Maddie Murphy competed Saturday at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships.
Steup, from Kingwood, Texas (Kingwood), placed 87th of 279 competitors in the 6k race, clocking in at 22:19.9 at Wartburg College. Murphy, from Friendswood, Texas (Friendswood), finished in the 153rd slot, with a time of 22:49.
Wendy Pavlus of St. Lawrence won the event, crossing the finish line at 20:49.3.
One week ago, Steup finished fourth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Memphis, with a mark of 22:26. Murphy placed 10th (22:47), as both runners earned All-Region honors.
In last month's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Trinity at Texas Lutheran in Seguin, Texas, Steup placed second (22:27.6) and was named the SCAC Freshman of the Year. Murphy came in at No. 15 (23:37.8), just missing All-SCAC recognition.
