Trinity Cross Country Teams to Compete in NCAA Regionals

San Antonio -- The Trinity Tigers men's and women's cross country teams will compete Saturday in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regionals at Memphis, Tenn.

Hosted by SCAC member Rhodes College, at Shelby Farms, the men's 8k race begins at 11 a.m., and the women's 6k event starts at noon. Qualifiers (the top two teams and seven individuals not on the qualifying teams) will advance to the NCAA Championships Nov. 20 at Waverly, Iowa.

Led by Head Coach Jenny Breuer, the Tiger men placed third, and the women 12th, at the 2009 regional, held at Greensboro, N.C. Trinity's women have captured the regional event on two occasions, the latest being 2008.

Zach Brush of Edmond, Okla. (Edmond North), now a senior, earned men's All-Region recognition with a No.. 22 finish (28:17). Junior Robert Edmonds of San Antonio (Health Careers) placed 30th (28:38) and also was named to the All-Region Team.

A prelude to this year's regional event was the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held Oct. 30 at Texas Lutheran in Seguin, Texas. Each Tiger team placed fifth at the Trinity-hosted conference meet. Both teams came in behind regional rivals Centre and Rhodes. Trinity first-year women's runner Rosemary Steup of Kingwood, Texas (Kingwood), was runner-up, and took home SCAC Freshman of the Year honors. Steup clocked in at 22:27.6, just 5.5 seconds behind the champion, Taylor Stephens of Rhodes. Maddie Murphy, a first-year runner from Friendswood, Texas (Friendswood), just missed All-SCAC honors, with a 15th-place finish (23:37.8).

Two Tiger men earned All-SCAC honors: Edmonds finished in seventh place (25:56.1), and senior Adam Cribb of San Antonio (Randolph) was 10th (26:04.6). Brush placed No. 18 (26:16.3).
